Special Projects: thankyoucasegod x Ian Charms

Thankyoucasegod x Ian Charms

I had the opportunity to collaborate with female owned, handmade jewelry company in LA, Ian Charms. This project consisted of attaching over 500 individual charms onto a Chuck Taylor to create a piece titled the “Charm Taylor All Star”. This collaboration spurred from mutual appreciation from both partners to create brand awareness, with an interesting piece of marketing content for both social channels.

It Started With a DM!

Since its inception in 2020, celebrities (Post Malone, the Kid LAROI, Justin Bieber, Doja Cat, Pete Davidson, and more) have been co-signing the brand that creates one-of-a-kind custom jewelry pieces based on distinct personalities. When Lisa (the owner) reached out
I was super flattered and excited for the opportunity.

After getting the message, I Immediately started concepting possible creations on Photoshop. Using what I knew about the brand to slowly piece together how I could create a “fantastical” but familiar footwear sculpture using the mixed materials.

Options, Options, Options…

Three different possible creative directions with moodboards and mockups.

As the materials came in from Ian Charms, one of the toughest part of the projects was to find an adhesive that would be flexible, strong and unnoticeable. As you can see on the right different glue compounds would make more of a residue than others.

The ongoing time and attention to detail was a challenge. Each charm was correctly selected to fit perfectly against the previously glued down charm so they would interlock showing none of the canvas underneath.

After the project was finished I photographed the shoe highlighting the amount of detail within each charm. Then collaborative posted on Instagram.

Although, the original intent was to just make something cool, the post garnered multiple reposts garnering over 10k likes and 200 comments.
